Karl Brown from Manchester, Jamaica took his determination to become a Magistrate in Miami, Florida

Karl S.H. Brown, Esquire

General Magistrate/Judge, State of Florida 11^th Judicial Circuit, Miami-Dade County, Miami, Florida since May 2005, hearing cases in the Family Division.

A native of Manchester, Jamaica.

Graduate of the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas, with a Juris Doctor in May 1989. Graduate of the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida with a Bachelor of Arts, in Political Science and African and Afro-American History in December 1984.

Member of The Florida Bar. Currently serve as an Adjunct Professor in the University of Miami Paralegal Program teaching courses to paralegal students to develop knowledge of the judicial process and the skills needed to apply their acquired knowledge.

Prior to being appointed as a General Magistrate/Judge, served as the Principal owner and practitioner in the Firm, Law Offices of Karl S.H. Brown, P.A., Miami, Florida,

with areas of practice in commercial and contract law, family law, real estate, labor and personal injury litigation from 1997 to 2005.   He also served as Assistant County Attorney with the Office of the Broward County Attorney, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, primarily responsible for environmental law litigation representing the Broward County Department of Natural Resources Protection, from 1993 to 1997.  Karl began his career as Judicial Staff Attorney for the State of Florida Seventeenth Judicial Circuit, Broward County, Florida from 1990 to 1993, being primarily responsible for research in all aspects of criminal and civil Litigation where he made recommendations, prepared memoranda of law, orders and opinions in County Court appeals.

He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Caribbean Bar Association, and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Karl is a former member of Board of Directors, Inner-city Children’s Dance Company, Board of Directors Black Nurses Association, Inc., Florida Students Association, United States Student Association, and he is a member of Praise and Evangelism Miracle Ministries Church, Miami Gardens, Florida.

Karl holds a Black Belt Karate in the GoJu style and serves as an instructor.
